European Coal and Steel Community has been urged by the transport committee of the European Parliamentary Assembly to work out an overall transport policy concept by the end of this year. At the same time the committee supports the Authority in the execution of its recommendation to publish coal and steel freight rates in road, rail and water transport and condemns in particular the secret tariffs frequent in Holland.
In the meantime, the Italian Government has informed the Luxembourgbased Supreme Authority that it is prepared to negotiate with Authority representatives on publication of coal and steel rates now that the Dutch complaint against the Authority has been rejected and the Italian one cancelled. Holland, on the other hand, shows no signs of readiness to negotiate on this point, which the E.P.A. considers essential to the carrying out of the E.C.S.C. agreement.
