SUPERMARKET GIANT Asda is to come to face-to-face with angry truck drivers fed up with delays and poor facilities at its regional distribution centres (RDCs).
David Gibbons, supply operations director of Asda, agreed to meet them after speaking to Barri eTozer, the driver behind the Truckersmoan.co.uk website.
Tozer has been campaigning doggedly for improvements at supermarket RDCs.
An earlier meeting with Safeway's supply operations director, Mark Ay!win, and senior logistics manager,JohnNorfolk, resulted in immediate improvements. These include emergency overnight parking and access to canteens (CM 21 August). Tozer says: "The meeting with Safeway was very successful and we are now hoping to get the support of the other supermarkets too.
"Many drivers complain about waiting hours to unload or being refused access to toilets, and this is a chance to get supermarkets to listen and show them what improvements can be made.
"Any drivers with problems at their RDCs should contact me. The more evidence I have from drivers about the recent problems they have faced the better."
The meeting with Gibbons has been arranged for 1.45pm on 5 November; it will be held at Asda's Bedford RDC.
