YOUR ARTICLE ON an engine which appeared on a Cummins stand at the recent Defence Systems and Equipment International show in London described it as having been developed in conjunction with Shoreham's Ricardo (CM 18 September).
This is not accurate, as the engine was developed by the US arm of Ricardo at our facilities in Detroit and Chicago and in collaboration with Cummins in the US.
The project was undertaken under contract to the US government, and as the engine is intended for application in a military vehicle we are under statutory constraints to only allow US personnel to work on the project and have access to the technical details.
As a consequence our USbased staff are constrained in what they can say about the engine development, including to the UK operation here at Shoreham.
You will therefore understand our concern over any impression that any work on this engine was conducted in the UK.
The information released about this engine development and the show engine featured in your article have been cleared for publication and they only represent a general system description without disclosing detailed technical information.
