In a report to Glasgow Corporation's police committee, the chief constable says that it will be absolutely necessary to have an efficient and enlarged fleet of motorcars and vans for police pur poses. It is alarming, he states, to know that Glasgow, with over 1,000,000 inhabitants and an enormous floating population, has a police force equipped with only five patrol vans and four motorcars which can be used solely for police purposes.
It is of vital importance that a patrol van and a fast touring ear be allotted to each of the new divisions, and he recommends, therefore, that, before the divisional boundaries are altered, four patrol vans, six fast motorcars, and two small ears for dispatches be purchased, at a cost not exceeding 16,000.
