of even heavier steel coils by rolling mills, a new coil carrier semi-trailer built by Highway Trailers (Gt. Britain) Ltd. has what is claimed to be the deepest well of any carrier on the road. The new model 2002RC is a 33 ft. tandemaxle model designed to take heavier coils than the existing Highway range, and
when the five hardwood floor hatches are in place it can be used for return loads at 30 tons gross train weight.
The trailer is 8 ft. 21 in. wide overall and the coil well is 20 ft. 3 in. long, 5 ft. 1 in. wide and 1 ft. tin, deep. The main frame members are 17 in, by 34 in. rolled steel Z section carrying channelsection cross-members; side raves are of cold rolled steel.
The tubular axles on the no-hop, lubri cation-free running gear are equipped with 161 in. by 7 in.
S-cam brakes. The service brakes have two-line air-pressure
actuation and the emergency braking is by an upright air
pressure system with quick-release valves. Tyres are 10.00-20 14-ply on 10-stud wheels.
