AUNICIPAL bus undertakings in South Lancashire should be re-organized into nil two or three large undertakings to cover the whole area from the Ribble to the Mersey, Labour MP Mr. Charles R. Morris (Manchester, Openshaw) is to urge in Parliament next Tuesday.
Mr. Morris, a former chairman of the Manchester city transport committee, believes that the finance and service commitments of the municipal authorities are now so great that they should be rationalized to operate from natural main bases such as Preston. Liverpool and Manchester.
This would bring many benefits to passengers in the form of uniform fares and -regulations, properly phased timetables, easier long-distance journeys, etc.
Many undertakings, he argues, already operate joint services with other authorities, Large-scale amalgamation would create powerful new large authorities which would he able to Man and finance services on a greatly improved scale in the whole of the area.
Mr. Morris, wiil put his case to MPs in an 'adjournment debate, to which Mr. Swingler. (Parliamentary Secretary. Ministry of Transport) is expected to contribute the Government's view.
