Commissioners have refused the application of the West Yorkshire Road Car Co. Ltd. to increase fares on 124 routes. The company claimed at the Leeds hearing that the recent pay wages award would cost £125,347, including operating costs. The many objectors contended that the profit made by West Yorkshire was "too high" and that other companies provided 50 per cent more distance for the same fare.
Higher East Yorkshire Fares: Proposed fare increases for East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd. were granted last week at Bridlington by the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners. Three routes were excepted: Hull-York, Hull-Withernsea and Hull-Hornsea. A company spokesman said this was the first application for an increase since July, 1961.
