THIS week's prize-winner is Mr. D. V. I. Brown, of Tottenham, N. London. He says that when fitting a replacement exhauster, the jig (which is shown in theā¢ accompanying drawing) will save removing the timing cover. The drill, says Mr. Brown, is to remove the radiator. take the inspection plate from the cover, remove the split pin and castellated nut from the exhauster driving shaft, remove
the fuel injection pump, and loosen the six bolts holding the exhauster. Plate A tits in place of the inspection plate. Screwed sleeve B is screwed back to hold the driving sprocket firm against the casting, also to prevent losing the timing. Drift C should then be used to drive the exhauster back through the sprocket.
This rig, Mr. Brown asserts, saves much of the time which would be taken_ in slackening all the sump bolts, removing the timing case, and in removing the driving pulley and engine mountings.
Comments Handyman: A lot of time is wasted on exhauster changes. Such a tool as that described by Mr. Brown is not listed, but there is a real need for one. Perhaps a manufacturer could offer one?
