Not " Used Enough which appeared on page 40 of your• issue of April 17, I think you will find that the main reason why heavy truck drivers do not like using by-passes is the ridiculous roundabouts built on them. In many cases it is impossible to get a sixor eight-wheeler around
these monstrosities unless one mounts the kerb. Believe me no professional driver wants to keep kerbing his tyres in view of the delay this may well cause through damage.
I am a long-distance driver and have been so for the past 10 years, and I think I know a bit about the job. Personally, there is nothing I detest more than lugging a loaded truck round a succession of roundabouts—I would rather put half-an-hour on the journey and make it in comfort.
