MEMBERS of the Greater London Council last week discussed a report submitted by the minority party of the council on the council's requirements for bus lanes.
The report criticised the council for sticking dogmatically to pre-determined criteria' among them that there must be at least 35 buses an hour using the lane.
The report claims that this has resulted in successful bus lanes being removed. One example given was that of a lane in East Finchley which had speeded up buses and other traffic.
London Transport, the Metropolitan Police and the Council's officers wanted the lane to continue but as it was used by only 28 buses an hour it was removed.
The removal cost £1,895.
