New tyres for old
TYRES WITH damaged breaker plies can now be retreaded with equipment from Retreading Equipment of Alton, Hants.
The high resale value of worn tyres has influenced tyre manufacturers Michelin and Semperit to offer a rebuild service for their own brands where the damaged top ply is replaced.
This equipment consists of an aerofoil-shaped knife of hardened steel, used in conjunction with a buffing machine, which separates the plies completely from the tyre. It will make it possible to retread casings that would otherwise have been scrapped.
About 14 per cent of worn tyres are said to require "rebelting" at the same time as :retreading.

THE TRUCKPARTS Division of Brown Brothers Ltd of Swindon has now produced a catalogue for distribution to fleet operators.
