MERSEYSIDE County Council has launched a campaign to allow Merseyside to take a bigger share of the lucrative coach tour trade. It is designed to stimulate the interest of coach tour operators from other parts of Britain in the cultural and tourist attractions in the county.
Detailed package tours as well as 68 tourist destinations on Merseyside are being marketed by the county council with the support of the English Tourist Board.
The promotion centres round Destinations Merseyside, a low-cost booklet giving the detailed information that would be required by coach and tour operators, party organisers and schools visits organisers.
Destinations covered in the booklet include the more obvious tourist attractions such as Southport and Knowsley Safari Parkāand many others including Mersey cruises, Port Sunlight village and Pilkington Glass Museum.
"We shall be bringing a number of coach tour operators to Merseyside in the near future to demonstrate what we have to offer. We will take other opportunities later to discuss Merseyside's tourist potential with the travel trade," said Ron Jones of the council.
