60 trucks, I sign for all my own jobs and also some carried out by semiskilled workers. Could you please tell me how I stand in law if the brakes or steering of a vehicle fail after I have signed a job sheet ?

bility as a result of your signing job sheets. The secretary, or proprietor, of the company by which you are employed is the person who is legally responsible for the safe operation of the vehicles.
Your responsibility is solely to your employer to ensure that the work you have signed for has been done. But if, in due course, you become the holder of a transport manager's licence, then you will have legal responsibility to ensure that work is properly carried out.
