• The Road Haulage Association's fipCon tipper show seems to be back in business after major worries about its viability. However, as Cil/Iclosed for press this week it looked likely that it will be incorporated into the planned joint IRTE/SMMT Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC in 2000.
According to Steve Gray, the RHA's director of corporate affairs, a number of chassis manufacturers have been persuaded to come back to TipCon in 1999. Truck makers exhibiting at G-Max in Manchester on 22-24 April now include Leyland Daf, MAN, Iveco Ford, [RE and Mercedes.
Scania, Renault, Seddon and Foden have yet to decide; Volvo is definitely not attending. "We've completely rethought it and developed a simpler, shorter show," says Gray, who adds that the RHA has invited 10,000 operators to GMen at 25 for entry. The doors open at 11:00hrs on 22 April.
An SMMT announcement over the future of its commercial vehicle shows was postponed at the last minute for legal reasons.
• The RHA's Tan kCon event will be held at Castle bonington on 23-25 June.
