Ashwell chairs new EEC liaison group

SENIOR Transport and General Workers Union official Jack Ashwell has been elected chairman of the EEC's Joint Committee on Road Transport.
Ashwell, who is secretary of the union's commercial drivers' group, was elected at the committee's inaugural meeting on December 15.
Vice-chairman of the new body is Bob Duffy, senior executive officer of the Road
Haulage Association.
The new Joint Committee on Road Transport was formed by the EEC Commission to encourage workers and employers in road transport to work together towards the improvement and harmonisation of living and working standards.
It will assist the Commission in formulating and implem en tin g EEC's social policy affecting the industry.
