ONE of the first of a series of modern security lorry parks to be established throughout the country, the Eirn park at Kingstown, north of Carlisle and two miles from the city centre, has been put on the market by the liquidator since the owners, Vanguard Interstop of Leeds, ran into financial difficulties.
It was stated last week on behalf of the liquidator, Mr J. A. Wood, of Armstrong, Watson and Company, a Carlisle firm of accountants, that he is negotiating with interested parties and it was hoped to sell the property as a lorry park. Opened in the autumn of 1973, it is used by about 50 lorry drivers a night, but there have been problems over its distance from the accommodation where the drivers have customarily slept.
A motel at the park for lorry drivers is only half finished, work having stopped several months ago.
Meanwhile, Carlisle City Council, owners of the site, some time ago put a street parking ban on lorries and closed a car park to heavy vehicles in the hope that drivers would use the Kingstown park.
