J. D. Mather, 58, has been appointed managing director of Tankfreight Ltd, the National Freight Corporation's holding company for a number of subsidiaries specializing in the bulk storage and transport of liquids and powders (including Pickfords Tank Haulage and Harold Wood & Sons) and in waste clearance and reclamation. Mr Mather has been with Southern British Road Services since 1972, having joined BRS in 1967.
William Cowie, 47, and Bradford Walker, 38, have been appointed area managers of Southern BRS — newly created posts which will provide a link between the board and branches. Mr Cowie remains Dunstable branch manager, and his area will include Bucks, Herts and Beds; Mr Walker stays as mid-Kent branch manager, and his area is Kent, Surrey and Sussex. development manager, European and air transport division. Dr Jones is at present general manager of A. S. Jones & Co Ltd, a bulk liquid storage and haulage company in P & 0 Road Services.
Peter H. Wyke Smith, 54, general manager of Crosville Motor Services Ltd and a chief general manager in NBC's Western region, becomes National Bus Company group executive — engineering, on January 1, 1975. Stanley H. Morris, 44, general manager of The Potteries Motor Traction Co Ltd, becomes group executive -industrial relations — designate. He will assume the substantive appointment on the retirement of P. J. Brett, NBC's industrial relations and training officer, in April 1975.
Mr Geoffrey Lusher, currently operating manager with Maidstone & District Motor Services, has been appointed assistant operations manager (development) with the West Mid lands Passenger Transport Executive based at Walsall. Before moving to Maidstone, Mr Lusher worked with the City of Oxford and Bristol Companies.
Douglas Addison, who previously worked for a deepsea forwarding company, has joined MAT Transport and will be responsible for the operation of services and quotations from Glasgow. David Bruce will be responsible for the depot's fleet of tractive units, containers and trailers.
D. R. Baker, who retains his overall responsibility for transport in the Tesco Group, becomes director of supplies and transport — a new appointment in the Group.
Stanley 0. Neal has been appointed field service engineer for the East Midlands by MAN Concessionaires GB Ltd. Before joining the company, Mr Neal was six years with British Leyland in New Zealand as branch service manager.
Campbell Smith, 31, who was recently engaged on a research course at the Transport Centre, Cranfield Institute of Technology, has taken up his new post as technical secretary of the International Cargo Handling Co-ordination Association (ICHCA). He succeeds Geoffrey A. Stokoe, who resigned on 4 October.
Geoffrey Sweeting, 37, has recently been appointed general works manager/ director designate of Reeve Burgess Ltd, bodywork specialist, of Pilsley, Chesterfield. Before joining Reeve Burgess Mr Sweeting was production director of Lambourn Engineering Ltd.
Peter Wheatley, 47, has been appointed joint managing director of Marston Lubricants Ltd, industrial lubricant specialist of Naylor Street, Liverpool. He became company secretary in 1964 and was made a director in 1966.
