PACIFY NOZZLES • The sereenwashers fitted to light and car-derived vans are often not as efficient as they could be: in particular a limited number of jets will normally fail to give adequate coverage of the screen.
Pacet Manufacturing has produced a simple kit which aims to cut some of these disadvantages by replacing single-jet outlet nozzles with twin-jet ones, and by providing two such twin nozzles where only one was used before.
The Turbojet kit provided comes with two twin-jet nozzles with retaining nuts and spring washers; a tee-piece and an in-line non-return valve. The nozzles are of con; ventional design, with two ballbased jets in each: these appear to have an adequate range of directional adjustment for any normal installation. The tee piece and non-return valve are provided for use on those installations which do not already have two separate, jets or a non-return valve already in the system. A surprising omission from the kit is a length of tubing suitable for connecting a second nozzle into systems which previously had only one.
We fitted an example of the Pacet kit to an Austin-Rover Maestro which was supplied with two single-jet washer nozzles. In use, these had proved to be powerful, hut to be obstructed by the wipers in both parked and active positions. As this model has two jets in its system already, and the supply pipes stay full between uses, only the new nozzles were required.
Removal of the existing nozzles and fitting the new ones was easy, the main requirement being a socket or spanner thin enough to fit through the restricted access holes in the partial doubleskinning of the bonnet. The new nozzles slotted straight in, having the same stern diameter and the same locating flats on the stems as the originals. There are no clamps provided, either by ARG or Facet, to grip the supply pipes to the nozzles, but the Pacet nozzles seemed to grip the push-on pipe more firmly than did the originals, off which the pipes had fallen several times in the past.
By far the most time-consuming part of the fitting was the adjustment of the four jets to give good screen coverage, but even allowing for that, the installation was completed in about 15 minutes. It would have taken longer had new nozzle-mounting holes Omni in diameter) been needed.
In service, the Facet Turbojet washers have proved far superior to the ARG originals. They give massive flow of washer fluid, in a far more widely dispersed pattern which floods the screen area very quickly. So far, this appears to be a highly satisfactory, if simple, conversion, at a suggested retail price of 25.28.
