TRU CKPOL HAS signed a sponsorship deal with pan-European security service Eurowatch to establish a web-based service for recording truck crimes in the UK.
The new service will enable the collation of information on stolen loads, vehicles and criminal activity to help police identify patterns of crime. It will also be extended to allow other European police forces to register freight crimes occurring in their countries.
Eurowatch director Peter Vyvyan-Robinson says that truck crime costs Europe more than €15bn (£10bn) a year:"-The Truck Pol service will produce real-time intelligence and deliver it to the people who need it in both the public and private sectors.
"The plan to extend the service to cover other European countries is an important part of the strategy to attack one of the mainstays of criminal enterprise — the ability to move goods from country to country to avoid detection and arrest."
Head of TruckPol, Mark Hooper, adds that the service will also provide a real-time online database, which will help in the early identification of stolen loads and vehicles.
