CUSTOMS HAVE seized ii commercial vehicles and nearly 20.000 litres of laundered diesel in an operation in Counties Down and Antrim in Northern Ireland.
The operation was launched after specialist road fuel officers, carrying out roadside checks, discovered three commercial vehicles using laundered diesel.
Over the next two days they seized 16,000 litres of laundered diesel from a skip-hire company in North Down, and 3,400 litres from commercial premises in Ballymena, Co Antrim.
A Customs spokesperson says the skip hire company had been duped, and was not aware the diesel was laundered.
Customs' Head of Anti-smuggling Northern Ireland, Colin McAllister, says: "This Customs/ PSNI operation shows the benefit of multi-agency working, as part of the Organised Crime Task Force."
