It's hard to imagine, when it comes to number-crunching, any sector of the van industry not dominated by Ford. Last year 229,489 Ford light commercial vehicles were sold 32% of the overall marketplace. Yet Ford's own approved used van scheme, Ford Direct, seems only to have touched the tip of the iceberg -this year to August it sold 1,100 units.
Land Rover, classed as a CV by the SMMT, is second, with a few owners shy of 100,000 second-hand models selling last year. And Vauxhall takes the bronze medal.
Most notable, though, is the appearance of Bedford at number six. More than 29,000 Bedford-built products were exchanged invariably the Astra van, now a solid Vauxhall product.
DVLA uses a code for each vehicle produced rather than identifying the vehicle with its current manufacturer. Bedford products were still being registered as new more than a year after the production line had stopped but don't expect the glorious bygone name to move up the charts in forthcoming years.
