THE twice-weekly direct steamship service between Belfast and Man
chester has been suspended. Quicker transit for Manchester is expected by means of a new daily road service to Liverpool Docks which has been organized by Coast Lines Ltd. and their shipping associates. Shipments from the ports will take place every week night.
Depots are being established at each port to which shippers may deliver their goods for onward transmission or send their own vehicles to collect traffic. The Manchester depot will be at Albion Street, off Liverpool Street, Salford. Existing berths at Spencer "B ", Belfast. and No. 3 Shed, Pomona Dock, Manchester, are to be vacated.
All traffic will be carried in containers, or on trailers and Lancashire flats. Arrangements will he made to supply unit load equipment to traders' premises where full unit loads are being forwarded.
