• The National Carbonising Company Ltd. has announced that its road haulage, plant hire and engineering companies have been renamed "to associate them more closely with the parent company".
J. Clarke (Haulage) Ltd., of New 011erton, Notts, and its associated transport companies, Phillip Smith (Beeston) Ltd., F. D. Brown Ltd., and Paulson Haulage Ltd. are to be grouped together under the name NCC Plant and Transport Ltd. Also incorporated under the new name is Paulson Plant Hire Ltd. which, merged with J. Clarke's existing plant hire division, specializes in hiring earth-moving and screening equipment.
National Carbonising's transport interests have developed rapidly in the past six years. J. Clarke (Haulage) Ltd. was acquired in 1961 when it had 40 vehicles and 50 staff: Phillip Smith in 1965: F. D. Brown in January, 1967 and Paulson in November, 1967. Today the NCC transport companies operate more than 175 vehicles, have 200 employees and cover 9,000,000 miles a year.
Their vehicles are currently contracted to carry Rexco smokeless coal and coal oil (produced by National Carbonising); grain, cereals and other agricultural produce; pig iron, silica sand; scrap metal; stone and salt.
