Ashton-under-Lyne Corporation will increase all fares within the borough by 1d from May 12—the 3d minimum rising to 4d—and after about six months will introduce a 6d flat fare system to facilitate plans for the extension of 1-man operation.
The increase was sought to offset estimated deficits in 1967/68 of £22,339 and 1968/69 of £24,793. A provision of £6,000 had to be made for an estimated 10s a week wages rise likely to be agreed by the Prices and Incomes Board from July 1, 1968, said the Borough Treasurer.
