AT the RHA annual dinner on May 14, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Edward Heath, will be the principal guest. This was revealed at the Association's national executive council meeting on Wednesday, which also confirmed that the programme of a dozen freedom rallies in large towns and cities will culminate in one at the Albert Hall, London, on May 23.
Other points from the council meeting:— A functional group for caravan hauling and towing specialists may be set up; a meeting of the 100 or so members active in this branch is likely to be called.
The Association is making representations over several private Bills: for example, Hounslow, Newcastle and Lancashire Corporation Bills give traffic regulating powers that omit the "Leeds precedent" clause requiring consultation with interested bodies such as vehicle operators. The Hounslow Bill may also put a mudclearing onus on contractors working for landowners.
Two Bills (Cheshire and Leicester) provide .1 for limiting commercial vehicle street parking.
