ORDERS worth 000,000 have been placed by British Telecom with Simon Engineering, Dudley, for 27 hydraulic overhead working access platforms to supplement existing equipment operating in the UK.
The machines manufactured in the Simon factory in the West Midlands vary in sizes up to 30m (100 ft) working height. They will be used for overhead cable installation and inspection and maintenance duties on communication equipment. The largest machine in the Simon range has been delivered on a Dodge Commando chassis to the Earth satellite tracking station at Madely Hereford for maintenance work on the dish aerials.
Other machines already delivered are six 8.5m (28ft) units on Leyland Terrier chassis and one 18.2m (60ft) unit on a' Dodge. Ten 10.7M (35ft) units mounted on Leyland Terrier chassis, and a 18.5M (28ft) units on Bedford chassis are due to delivery in the spring.
