motor trader in accordance with the provisions of the Vehicles (Excise) Act 1971, and, although it was agreed that my business complied with the description of "motor trader'', the application was refused. I am puzzled by this. Can you enlighten me as to the reason for the refusal?
ABefore a trade licence is issued to a motor trader, the Excise Department has to be convinced that the applicant has sufficient business to warrant the grant of such a licence. The usual practice is to supply details of the amount of business done.
If your business is a new venture, you have little alternative but to operate for a reasonable period with your vehicle taxed as a goods vehicle and then re-apply, giving details of the amount of business which you have done during that time. Naturally, your application will stand a better chance of success if you can show that there has been a growth of business during the period.
