Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HAULIERS should prepare for the next general election, RHA director-general Freddie .Plaskett said this week.

Ile told conference delegates: "I honestly believe that the next general election will be one of the most crucial to face this country lot many years.

Plaskett insisted that the RHA did not support any single political party, and and had to exert its influence regardless of the party in power.

"Even if Britain were not saddled with a political philosophy which was determined to throw out the concept of using private capital to create wealth, and was wedded to the concept of nationalising everything in sight, there is still the possibility of having in power a political party

which — while not worried too much about nationalisation — held views less than welcome to road hauliers.

"Such a situation is quite on the cards, given that a much wider spectrum of political philosophy exists in Britain than in years past, with no fewer than four major parties vying for support," he said.

Plaskett also laid the blame for lorries' poor environmental image on successive governments which have not invested in sufficient new roads.

It was a matter for the RHA to continue to apply pressure to governments, but he also urged his members to improve their standards.

In particular. he stressed the importance of not permitting drivers to break speed limits.
