The Editor,. THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR.
• [1617] Sir,—Replying, if I may, to letter number 1616. Your editorial footnote rightly draws the writer's attention to the comparatively high ..indirect taxation which the owner of a petrol lorry in called upon to pay, but emits to point out several reasons why, in reality, the steamer, as being the greater road obstructor, to such an extent, in cities and large towns as almost to deserve the name nuisance, should really he ended upoirto contribute even more, in proportion, that its petrol-propelled brother.
One of the most troublesome of _traffic problems, and one that will have eventually to be faced, is that which concerns the slow traffic in crowded thoroughfares. From an economic point of view, in the broadest sense, the advantage of the...motor lies in its speed. If slower-moving vehicles could be eliminated the motor's -capacity would increase by 50 per cent. Why, then, in the name of all that stands for common sense, should a type of machine be delibeaately encouraged which does more than any other to block
our thoroughfares. Yaura faithfully, " GASOLINE."
