Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Guestrovv to increase fares on evening lours by as much as 150 per cent, above the pre-war level, were made at a sitting of the Scottish Licensing Authority, in Aberdeen, last Friday. Fares to Stonehaven and Inverurie were proposed to be raised from is. 6d. to 3s., Montrose from 3s. 6d. to 5s. 6d., Lumphanan from 2s. 6d. to 4s. 6d. and Kintore from is. to 2s. 6d.

Mr. A. Robertson, who presided, said that he hesitated to permit a 100 per cent, increase, but intimated that the arguments put forward would be considered.

Mr. W. D. Connochie, of Aberdeen, said that if fares were not increased, operators would not be able to run

evening tours. Mr. W. Reid, manager of Messrs. Campbell's Motor Services, Aberdeen, said that they, in common with other operators, asked that fares for evening excursions should be increased. The revenue last year did not justify running coaches for a whole evening.

Another operator, Mr. Summers, of Aberdeen, supporting Mr. Reid, said that passengers neglected the afternoon_ tours because the evening trips were cheaper.

During the sitting, Mr. Robertson warned operators against touting, which he described as "a pernicious and obnoxious practice." He said that if small operators did not discontinue it. their licences would be suspended or they would be prosecuted.
