riE LATEST range of goods vehicles produced in America by the Ford Motor Co. includes a side-loading forward-control 1-ton van, the general outline of which is not unlike that of the British-produced Thames 10and 15cwt. models. Hinged cab doors are fitted, but, another f-ton model—designed for parcels,delivery services—has sliding cab doors.
As recorded in the November 4, 1960, issue of The Commercial Motor, American Ford have introduced a series of oil-engined heavy-duty chassis, using Cummins power units. For these vehicles the standard C-series tilt cab is employed, but, because of the additional size of the engine, the basic cab is mounted on a deep superstructure which, in turn, has necessitated blanking off the wheel arches of the original cab, giving a rather surprising " makeshift" effect,
Chaos Ahead
PARKING meters are expected to bring rush-hour chaos when Bristol becomes the first provincial city to install them, on March 13. Motorists there are saying: "It will be cheaper by bus."
But Bristol buses are already hardpressed. Mr. Ian Patey, general manager of the Bristol Omnibus Co., Ltd., says: "The solution is staggered hours. No matter how good your bus is, no undertaking in the world could take home 150,000 people at once if they insist on leaving work at the same time."

MANCHESTER Corporation's scheme for providing more than 700 parking meters in the central area of the city has been approved by the Minister of Transport.
