AREQUEST was made in the House of Commons last week by Mr. Butcher that the Minister of Transport should make arrangements with London Trinsport to permit wounded soldiers, sailors and airmen to travel free of charge on its systems.
Sir John Reith said that, whilst he appreciated the motive, it was not one which he could require the L.P.T.B. to adopt. He added that he was informed that in the 1914-18 war no free travel was allowed.
Mr. Buchanan suggested following the example of Glasgow Corporation. In that town a standard fare of Id. covered the whole of the. system.
Sir John Reith said that that was another point, as it related to free facilities. He was prepared to ask the appropriate authority to consider the matter, but he did not think it was a matter for his Department.
