The many uses to which the Allen self-propelled motor scythe can be put will be shown by the maker, John Allen and Sons (Oxford), Ltd., Cowley, Oxford, on Stand 186 H. As a scythe it can be used for clearing grass, weeds, bracken, brambles and so on at one pass. It has a 1.9 b.h.p. air-cooled two-stroke engine which provides ample power for other duties such as spreading, load carrying, hedge trimming, pumping, sheep shearing and many other operations. Suitable accessories are available for its many applications.
The Allis-Chalmers Model B tractor will form the main exhibit of the Misr Chalmers Manufacturing Co., Commercial Road, Totton, Southampton, on
Stand 299 E. The four-cylindered petrol-paraffin engine of this tractor develops a maximum drawbar horse power of 16 when running on paraffin.
Bristol Tractors, Ltd., Earby, Lancs., will occupy Stand 259 G where it will be showing the Bristol 22 tractor, a model which replaces the Bristol 20 44-in.-track-centre machine.
The President four-wheeled tractor, a product of Brockhouse Engineering (Southport), Ltd., Crossens, Southport, Lancs., will beexhibited on Stand 298 E Powered by a Morris 918 c.c. tractor unit, the design of this machine has remained basically the same since its introduction some years ago. The claim is made for this tractor that it possesses greater traction than any other tractor in its class. The maker will also be showing examples of its two-wheeled light tractors powered by engines of 6 h.p., 34 hp. and 14 h.p. respectively. .
Among the tractors to be shown by David Brown Tractors, Ltd., Meltham, Huddersfield, Yorks (Stand 97 E) will be an improved and more powerful version of the maker's Cropmaster oilengined machine. Equipped with a direct-injection, cold-starting David Brown oil engine of increased bore, this example of the four-cylindered Cropmaster series, gives 34 b.h.p.. at 1,800 r.p.m. Six standard machines will bg included in the display, the Cropmaster, Cropmaster Diesel, Super Cropmaster, and the Trackmaster 30 with crawler tracks, in the four-cylindered class, and the Cropmaster Diesel 50 and Trackmaster Diesel 50 in the maker's sixcylindered range. No fewer than 60 implements and attachments, designed for use with David Brown tractors, are available and many of these will figure on the stand. Cliftord Aero and Auto Ltd., Wrekin Foundry; Ketley, Wellington, Salop, Stand 227 E, will again be showing examples of its rotary cultivator, together with a range of implements for mounting on it. These machines are of the pede§trian-controlled type.
Harry Ferguson Ltd., Coventry, Stand 322 C, will stage five examRles of the Ferguson tractor, together with 35 implements designed for use with this particular make of machine. The five tractors will comprise a standard model, an oil-engined version, a model having a minimum overall width of-4 ft. 6.ins., another for use in vineyards with a minimum overall width of 3 ft. 10 ins., and the Ferguson Industrial machine. The standard, narrow and vineyard models are supplied with a petrol, vaporizing oil, or a lamp oil engine, whilst the industrial tractor can be purchased with an oil engine. Amongst the 'equipment to be displayed will be a 30-cwt. trailer.' and a transport box. The latter is for attachment to the rear of the tractor to convert it into a useful load carrier.
Seven different. models of the new Fordson Major tractor, together with a part-sectioned exhibit of the oil-engined version' will form the display to be staged by the Ford Motor Co., Ltd., Dagenham, on Stand 292.C. One of the outstanding features of the new Fordson Major is that it is available with a petrol, Diesel oil, or vaporezing
oil engine, the main components in each of which are interchangeable. The standard Fordson Major is a wheeled tractor, but examples will be shown with Roadless half-track and County full-track equipment, both of which are in the nature of conversions.
The International Harvester Co., of Great Britain, Ltd., Harvester House, 259 City Road, London, E.C.1, will display, on Stand 349 G, examples of the Farman tractor together with a number of implements. A variabletrack front wheel,' giving the choice of 8 ins., 11 ins., 13i ins, and lo ins., will figure on a Farmall BM machine. It consists of twin wheels with 6.00 by 16 4-ply equipment. The stub axles are set at an angle in the centre bolster, so that the wheels incline inwards.
Four tractors will be exhibited by Marshall Sons and Co., Ltd., Britannia Iron Works, Gainsborough, Lincs., (Stand 318 E). These will include examples of the Challenger 1 and Challenger III, the Fowler Mk. VF and the Field-Marshal series III. The Challenger models are of the crawler type, the smaller version, the Challenger I, having a 50 b.h.p. two-cylindered oil engine, and the larger, a 95 b.h.p. six cylindered four-stroke oil engine. A Marshal single-cylindered two-stroke unit, developing 40 b.h.p., is employed in the Fowler Mk. VF which is also of the crawler type. The Field-Marshal series III, which is a wheeled tractor, also has a single-cylindered oil engine.
A Massey-Harris 744 D tractor, together with a wide range of equipment, will be seen on Stand 303 F, where Massey-Harris, Ltd., Barton Dock R'oad, Stretford, Manchester, will make its display. The 744 D tractor is of the wheeled type and has a 42 b.h.p. oil engine which gives a drawbar horse power of 36 and a pull of 5,800 lb.
Stand 324 B will be occupied by the Nuffield Organization, Cowley,
Oxford. This concern will have 12 Nuffield Universal tractors on show, together with a wide range of implements approved for use with them. The latest addition to the range of equipment offered is the V twin front wheel which should make a special appeal to farmers for road-crop and similar work. The tractorsto be shown will comprise
c34 eight M4 four-wheeled models with v.o. engines, two DM3 oil-engined models with the new V twin front wheel assembly, one DM4 four-wheeled model, and one PM4 four-wheeled machine.
Tractor-mounted equipment for crop spraying and other essential agricultural requirements, will be featured by Pest Control, Ltd., Harston, Cambridge. The maker's gas-proof cab for use on tractors devoted to crop spraying will also be exhibited. (Stand 150 D.) Ransome, Sims and Jefferies, Ltd., Orwell Works, Ipswich, will, as in previous years, occupy two stands. On Stand 496 J this maker will feature a variety of mowers ranging from 12 in. to 40 in. models.
Roadless half-track equipment, as fitted to the Fordson Major tractor, will form one of the exhibits on Stand 185 1-1 to be occupied by Roadless Traction, Ltd., Gunnersbury House, Hounslow, Middlesex This Roadless conversion enables tractor operations to continue when conditions are unfavourable to the use of a wheeled machine.
Both the standard and heavy-duty versions of the Skyhi hydraulic loader will be available for inspection at Stand 110 G where Skyhi Ltd., Skyhi Works, Walton Road, Isleworth, Middlesex, will exhibit its products. The standard loader will be shown on the new Fordson Major and Nuffield Universal tractor, but it can also be fitted to Ferguson, David Brown and Farman machines. The attachments for the heavy-duty loader include a full-width shovel, I-cubic yd. and 1 cubic yd. shovels, digger teeth, dozing blade: crane hook and beet hook. Fitted to the new Fordson Major, the loader is supplied with an all-weather steel cab.
In addition to examples of tractor equipment, Stanhay (Ashford), Ltd., Elwiek Works, Ashford, Kent, (Stand 152 C) will be exhibiting its hydraulic hoist, together with equipment designed for use with it. The attachments will include tackle for clearing ditches, loading manure, bale and sack lifting, and so on. It will be shown mounted on the new Fordson Major tractor, but it is also available for the old model Fordson Major and the Ferguson.
The Yeoman of England oil-engined tractor will, form one of the items to be shown by the Turner Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Wulfruna Works, Villiers Street, Wolverhampton, on Stand 155 B.
