• Reports that an announcement is imminent about the locations of the three main sites at the British end of the Channel Tunnel —although denied by the Ministry of Transport—have prompted Parliamentary action., Mr. Albert Costain, Conservative MP for Folkestone and Hythe, is to ask Mr. Marsh, Transport Minister (on July 14) to make a statement on the selection of sites for the freight terminal, railway marshalling yards and the passenger terminal.
And Mr. Deeds (Conservative, Ashford) has written to Mr. Marsh to ask for an undertaking that nothing will be agreed until up-to-date information has been laid before Parliament and the public. No one could tell whether any choice of locations was good or bad unless information relevant to 1969 was made available, he said. The last official information about this aspect of the tunnel project had been given some years ago. The Government roust not present the country with a fait accompli.
