A two-wheeled trolley unit has been designed by W. C. Youngman Ltd. to simplify the safe handling of plywood, hardboard. wallboard, doors, sheet metal and other materials or components having a large flat surface area. It is the Panel Glide, consisting of a mild-steel chassis, hinged at the bottom to form a vee-shaped clamp, 12in, long by 10in. wide by 9.5in. high, which closes as it receives the weight of the material being handled.
Fitted with two 5in. diameter nylon wheels, the trolley unit enables one man to move 600Ib of sheet material up to 2in, total thickness. By opening and closing as weight is removed or applied, it is easily positioned at the centre of gravity beneath the tilted load.
Use of the aid with delivery vehicles and in workshops, factories or on site is claimed to minimize the danger of damage due to mishandling, and, by vertical storage, reduce the cost of mechanized equipment where single sections are involved.
