• No fewer than nine W-registered z000-vintage Volvo FM1.2 380 6x2 mid-lift tractors came under the hammer at a recent sale held by Commercial Vehicle Auctions at its Doncaster centre. Finished in white, and all with alloy wheels, they fetched Li7,750 to £18500.
''They were nice clean trucks, and we'd have been disappointed if they'd only made L17,000," says managing director Chris Wright. -Condition matters, and there can be a price difference of between £5,000 to £6,000 between a rough truck and a clean one."
Some X-registered Scania Ri24 420 4x2 tractors with Topline cabs proved his point.
"They were the bestlooking trucks I've seen for a long time," Wright says. "People at the sale thought they'd make £32,000 to £33,000, but they in fact went for £38,500 to L39,500."
Not many cement powder tankers appear at auction. Several turned up at Doncaster recently, and attracted plenty of interest—a triaxle non-tipping Metalair dating back to 1997 was sold for £25,750.
Drumming up interest in Daf 85CF 380 tractors is rather more difficult. says Wright. "We are having to work pretty hard to get the prices up," he comments.
"Rather a lot of them have come onto the market recently."
