• Lancashire warehousing and distribution firm Allen Munro Transport has been forced to close due to financial problems, after failing to find a buyer.
Administrators DeWitte & Touche started winding up the company's operations at its Skelmersdale, Glasgow and Lutterworth depots last Friday (21 March). It has made 160 people redundant over the last two weeks.
The appointment of administrators was made on 29 January after finance director Michael Hill and managing director Kefth Dickinson were dismissed due to financial irregularities. A Delottte & Touche spokesman says an investigation into the two directors is still underway, in order to assess whether legal action should be taken.
Speaking in February, administrator Bill Dawson announced that the decision had been made to trade the business on as a going concern while a buyer was sought. However, after almost two months, no suitable buyer had been found.
