rrHE awards at this year's national finals for the Lorry Driver of the Year Competition will be A presented by the Minister of Technology, Mr. Frank Cousins. The finals are to be held at Bramcote, near Nuneaton, on Sunday, September 11. Mr. Cousins is MP for Nuneaton and is also general secretary of the Transport and General Workers Union. This was announced at a meeting of the executive committee in Coventry on Tuesday.
Following a successful appeal against a low-loader unit at Weymouth this year, the committee revised the wording stipulating types of vehicles eligible to enter classes F(1) and G so as to include low-loaders. It was decided that secretaries of all remaining eliminating centres should be immediately instructed to accept low loaders in these classes. It was also decided, without prejudice to the national steward's decision at Weymouth, to invite the driver of the disqualified vehicle (who had been a class winner) to compete in his class in the National Finals as an additional entrant. The executive also decided to set up an appeals committee for the competition. to which objections to a national steward's decision could be taken.
