BUS services in Glasgow were suspended at midnight on Tuesday, following a strike by Greater Glasgow PTE maintenance staff.
The 700 maintenance men went on strike last weekend in pursuit of their claim for more than 40 per cent extra wages, and emergency repair squads withdrew labour two days later.
PTE management has offered them five per cent plus a self-financing productivity deal, and says it cannot breach the Government's wages guidelines. Services deteriorated at the beginning of the week, and the decision to withdraw all services was taken in the interests of avoiding a backlog of repair work.
