The Leith Police Committee, on the 19th inst., recommended the Town Council to parchase two motor fireeegines, and to replace the horseengines therewith.
The Organizing Committee of the Bournemouth Centenary Fetes, which are to take place in July next, has concluded arrangements for a fireengine demonstration by Dennis Bros., Ltd., of Guildford.
Apropos the illustration on this page of Beckenham's small engine, we learn that the Burgess Bill brigade is likely to acquire one of the same type. An adapted " Auto-Carrier," from the Goodehild Co., should meet the case.
At Glasgow.
The Glasgow Corporation has now completed an agreement with the County Councils of Lanark and Renfrew, for the service of the lire brigade outside the city area. A special sub-committee is now considering a proposal for the purchase of additional motor fire-engines, and, in this connection, there is an extraordinary controversy taking place between the City Council and the Postmaster-General. The Post Office appears to be contend
ing that the City Council has no right t) establish private telephone wires between the several stations, but we understand that an amicable settle
meat will be reached. The motor fireengines did splendid work at the great sawmill fire, on Monday last.
Small Plant.
We illustrate, in some detail, the first-aid motor tri-car, at the Beckenham (Kent) fire station. It has been in use for over 18 months, and it is proving most efficient in dealing with fires in the initial stage. Inquiries as to its working cost, etc., are being received from fire-brigade officials in various parts of the country. A similar type of machine is to form part of the equipment at the new all-motor station at Bromley (Kent).
Not a Folly.
Mr. Pelissier, the founder of " The Follies," did a wise. thing, on Sunday, the 17th inst. By invitation of Mr. Raymond Dennis, he travelled from London to Birmingham, in company with Chief Officer Tozr and other gentlemen, upon a new six-cylinder Dennis turbine engine for the Birmingham brigade. Mr. Pelissier, who has an intimate knowledge of merhanics, controlled the vehicle perfectly, and was delighted with its running.
Birmingham's New Engine.
The new Dennis engine, for the Birmingham Brigade, to which we have made reference earlier on this page, has been the cynosure of all critical eyes in Birmingham, since its arrival a little more than a week ago. The neatness of the turbine-pump design is much appreciated, and the engine's all-round qualities have been severely tested already. The rapidity with which Dennis Bros., Ltd., has secured a commanding position in the fireengine world is remarkable testimony both to the excellence of its manufacture and the business ability of those who have charge of its affairs.
