WilTI-1 Mr. W. A. Sutton, chairman and VV managing director of Sutton and Son (St. Helens) Ltd., to cut the white ribbon and Mr. B. Francis Caunt, managing director of Atkinson Vehicles Ltd., to break a bottle of champagne on the radiator, the 10,000th Atkinson was launched on its career at the Walton-leDale factory on Tuesday. Sutton's first new Atkinson was purchased in 1941 and the latest unit joins more than 100 vehicles of this make now in the fleet. The 10,000th Atkinson is a T946XA tractive unit with Gardner 6LX diesel engine and David Brown six-speed overdrive gearbox. The cab incorporates an illuminated canopy with the operator's name and the fleet number of the vehicle. the latter being an innovation for the Sutton organization. Atkinson vehicles now constitute twothirds of the Sutton fleet, ranging from four-wheeled tractive units to 24-tongross rigid eight-wheelers.
