• Robin Gisby, former managing director of Charterail, aims to win back some of the business of the failed road/rail operation in his new role as chief executive of the private rail freight operation, Mendip Rail.
The company was formed at the end of last year as a joint venture between ARC and Foster Yeoman.
It uses its nine locomotives and 600 freight wagons to move bulk aggregates, but Gisby plans to "use that as a base for developing further rail traffic across a range of freight markets".
Target clients are likely to include Charterail customers such as Safeway, Coca-Cola and Pedigree Petfoods.
