• Home Office minister Michael Jack has ruled out setting up a national police task force to combat truck theft, despite the ever increasing number of vehicles being stolen each week.
In response to a letter from Commercial Motor highlighting the problems faced by hauliers when their vehicles or loads are stolen, Jack says: "We do not consider that a national police task force would be the answer to the problems associated with truck theft."
However, Jack says he appreciates the "devastating effects that the loss of a vehicle and its load can have on a commercial company" and promises to consider if "some Home Office publicity aimed specifically at truck theft might be appropriate".
