bus manufacturer, A.E.C., Ltd., Mr. Hinnigan said that he did not know that in 1949 only 53 springs were returned by the corporation to A.E.C., Ltd. Of these, only four were 21-leaf springs. Mr. Hinnigan was unaware also that of 15 returned in 1950, not one was a 21-leaf spring.
Mr. W. Barr. executive director of the metallurgical and research department of Colvilles. Ltd., said that the fatigue cracks in the spring had been in propagation for some time. He told Mr. John Cameron, K.C,, for the corporation, that such cracks were difficult to detect in the ordinary way. He did not think it fair to say that it could have been found in the courseof ordinary maintenance.
