LONDON REGIONAL has been told to improve its bus services within the cash available to it.
The instruction to LRT came last week from Transport Secretary Nicholas Ridley, who also told the chairman, Dr Keith Bright, that the private sector should provide services where that was more efficient.
Mr Ridley said he wanted LRT to bring forward a steady programme to improve facilities for passengers, including interchanges between bus, rail and underground services, long distance coaches, taxis and private transport.
Mr Ridley said he expected fares increases broadly to keep in line with inflation despite a target of cutting subsidies by £95m in the next three years.
