AIR-HYDRAULIC braking systems Pl. are now available as optional equipment on all Thames Trader six-cylinder forwardand normal-control chassis, this including 4to 7.5-ton forward-control models, 5and 7-ton normal-control chassis, the p.s.v. and tractive units. The equipment is essentially the same for all models, although there are variations in the mountings of the units, the capacity of reservoirs, the size of brake chambers, and so forth.
Power for the air-pressure side is in all cases supplied by a Clayton Dewandre SC6 compressor, which draws clean air from the engine air cleaner. An E-type brake valve is employed and, according to the model, either Clayton Dewandre type 30 or 36 brake chambers are employed, in conjunction with 1-5-in or 1-75-in. master cylinders. The compressor has a nominal cubic capacity of 6 cu. ft., and weighs just under 17 lb. The maximum operating pressure is 105 p.s.i., and the governor valve is set to act on the unloader mechanism at a reservoir pressure of 91 p.s.i. The E-type brake valve is remotely mounted, and operated by a conventional brake pedal.
