FXTRAORDINARY behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing at Irussels this week by Denmark could prove a boon to all those :oncerned about the introduction of the EEC Drivers' Hours tegulation 543/69.
Not only will Denmark push hard to get the compromise ■ ackage on the regulation accepted by the member states, it has dso vowed to propose even further changes.
And next year, Denmark takes over the presidency of the :ouncil of Ministers.
The result of this move could be that, by the time the lhasing-in period of the regulation (demanded by Britain) is up, he regulation will have changed to suit Britain and Ireland letter, and the controversial legislation may not have to be itroduced at all.
Denmark introduced the regulation at the beginning of this ear, but has since radically criticised it.
Once the immediate problem of getting the transitional period ; solved, Denmark plans to begin changing the regulation trough the Council of Ministers.
