FEARS were expressed this week that serious travel difficulties might arise in Manchester on Thursday following a threat by 2,000 local railwaymen to stage a one-day strike at the same time as that under consideration by Manchester Corporation bus crews. The first of the unofficial one-day strikes by the Manchester Corporation busmen took place on Thursday of last week as a protest against the lack of a successful outcome on certain local negotiations on pay.
Union representatives have accepted an Offer by Salford Corporation of a 12s. bonus payable to those arriving each day at watered times and carrying out a full week's work.
Edinburgh Tries New Bus Types: Three new types of bus which will be considered for use in the Corporation's bus fleet were inspected by members of Edinburgh transport committee last Saturday, before going into trial service for two weeks. The buses are a 78-seat Daimler Fleetline, a 74-seat Leyland Atlantean and a 71-seat A.E.C. Renown, all front-entrance double-deckers.
