Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NEW type of bearing for steering

columns, to overcome the inherent disadvantages of felt, has been produced by Howard Clayton-Wright, Ltd., Wellesbourne, Warwickshire.

It consists of Nylastic, a hard-wearing substance, backed by rubber, which was chosen for its persistent endeavour to revert to normal under compression.

The bearing has been subjected to vigorous tests in the laboratory and on the road. Apart from use in powered and mechanical steering systems, the makers recommend it for application to bus relay and remote-control mechanisms, clutch and brake-pedal shafts, gear-lever arms and so on.

In designing it, Howard ClaytonWright, Ltd., set out to evolve a material which would not soon compress and harden, wear quickly, and shrink under the tendency of the steering column to give a constant uneven movement of heavy radial compression.
