• West Country meat packer John Perkins has served Channel Four Television Company Ltd with a writ after its Dispatches programme about unfit meat consignments.
In the programme Channel Four revealed that Barnsleybased Norman Bramall had pleaded guilty to consigning meat unfit for human consumption to John Perkins. The meat was rejected by John Perkins, which called in environmental health officers.
Perkins took a second delivery of meat from Bramall at their request.
Channel Four says: "We emphasise that it was not Channel Four's intention to suggest that the products of John Perkins are other than entirely fit to eat or that the company was in any way involved in any illegal trade in meat."
